International Key Account Manager DACH

The Role

As one of our Senior International Key Account Managers for customers in the DACH region, you will be responsible for driving revenue and margin growth across FMCG categories, with a strong focus on confectionery and other food items, as well as personal care and hygiene products within the non-food retail sector (key channels: apparel, non-food discount, and e-commerce).

Your main responsibility is to manage and develop existing customers in Germany and Austria — including well-known national and Europe-wide operating companies based in these countries. Alongside building and expanding distribution, maintaining and strengthening a solid relationship network is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage top-tier key accounts to jointly grow the business and develop categories in partnership (food, beverages, personal care, hygiene).

  • Expand the regional customer base and acquire new clients.

  • Identify new market opportunities through in-depth market analysis and participation in trade fairs.

  • Achieve annual budget targets (revenue, margin, costs) and ensure excellent operational execution.

  • Optimize the regional sales strategy to drive additional and profitable growth.

  • Think strategically, analyze the market, identify risks and opportunities, and translate insights into action.

  • Maintain accurate administrative processes, including contracts, forecasts, email management, quotations, and orders.

  • Work closely with the purchasing, account management, and supply support teams.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Regular travel to the Netherlands and to our Hamburg headquarters for team meetings, stakeholder sessions, and customer discussions.

  • Deliver product- and service-related presentations.

  • Lead negotiations on commercial terms in line with internal guidelines.

  • Prepare quotations and manage orders.

  • Participate in projects and optionally take on project leadership.

  • Provide cover for colleagues and supervisors during vacation or sick leave.

  • Share best practices across teams.

Candidate Profile (m/f/d)

  • Successfully completed university degree (Bachelor or Master), ideally with a focus on sales — or a comparable qualification gained through training and/or experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Key Account Management (LEH, OoH, GAM, GFGH) at a reputable FMCG manufacturer or wholesaler.

  • At least 3 years of independent customer leadership, including annual negotiations and pricing discussions.

  • Experience in Category Management is a plus.

  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.

  • Excellent PC skills, especially MS Office (Excel very strong; Word & PowerPoint). Experience with ERP systems (Business Central, Microsoft Dynamics) and analytics tools (Power BI).

  • Native-level German and excellent English skills. Additional languages — especially Dutch — are an advantage.

  • Communicative, team-oriented, persuasive, and confident presenter.

  • Confident and personable demeanor, with a winning attitude.

  • High level of initiative, independence, resilience, and a hands-on mentality.

  • Open, honest character with strong intercultural competence.
